- An approved amendment introduces a function to delete accounts on the XRP Ledger. Users who delete their accounts can receive 75% of their funds.
- The amendment was tabled on May 8 at 4:29 UTC through the general ledger 55,313, according to XRPSCAN.
According to the XRPSCAN block explorer, an amendment has been adopted which allows accounts to be deleted from Ripple’s XRP register. The amendment was voted according to the XRP ledger governance model and was adopted with 80% approval after the required 15 days, as reported by Arturo Padilla, former director of XRPCentre.
Will Ripple have the power to delete your account?
The amendment was first discussed in October 2019. It was proposed as a mechanism to deter “abusive behavior” and suspicious accounts. According to Ripple’s technical director, David Schwartz, suspicious spam accounts in the XRP registry can be deleted and funds can be recovered from the account once approved. According to XRPSCAN, the change was activated by the XRPSCAN 55 313 921 registry at 4:29 a.m. UTC on May 8, 2020. XRPSCAN published via Twitter:
The modification of the vote for deletable accounts is complete and this modification is now active. It should be possible to delete your accounts and recover 75% of your reserve balance.
When the proposal became known, the function was criticized as contrary to the principles of a decentralized network. At this time, it is unclear which accounts are considered spam and what are the criteria for deleting an account. However, in principle, only users with the private key will be able to delete their accounts, and not, as originally assumed, a person from the central authority.
At the end of February, Schwartz discussed the modification procedure used to approve the account deletion function. At that time, Schwartz pointed out that a particular change must be taken care of 80% for 15 days, otherwise the approval cycle would have to start again. According to Ripple’s CTO, these and other changes to the change process should build user confidence and prevent network forks from inadvertently.

Ripple promotes the XRP registry and token
As reported by CNF, Ripple is expanding XRP Ledger and creating new use cases for the XRP token. One of the projects to achieve this is the development of a new trading platform, which would be based on the liquidity on demand payment solution and XRP. Two vacancies on Ripple’s vacancies revealed references to the platform. However, the project is still in its infancy, so further details on its development, purpose and functionality remain to be seen.
