Cereals Canada applauded the completion of negotiations on the Canada-U.K. Continuity of Trade Agreement, announced on November 21 by Minister Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade .
“The Canada-UK Trade Continuity Agreement provides important clarifications on Canada-UK trade relations in the post-Brexit environment. This is a positive outcome for Canadian wheat growers and exporters, particularly those operating in a highly integrated supply chain with major UK millers and food processors, ”said Dean Dias, Head of management of Cereals Canada.
“The UK is a valuable and cohesive market for Canadian wheat producers and exporters. The Canadian grain industry has a longstanding relationship with UK partners and we look forward to continued stability of export opportunities for high and medium protein wheats in the post-Brexit environment, ”said Dias .
“Now that the negotiations are over, we are asking the Canadian Parliament to ratify the transitional agreement before the end of the year. Given the interim nature of this agreement, we urge Canada and the UK to continue discussions towards a permanent trade agreement to support continued long-term growth and stability, ”Dias concluded.
