Syracuse, NY – The Syracuse Police Charity Association will donate $ 2,500 to local pantries this year in lieu of its tradition of giving food baskets to families.
For more than 40 years, the union has delivered food baskets to families in neighborhoods across the city, union president Jeff Piedmonte said. These baskets go to approximately 275 families.
Covid-19 restrictions made that impossible this year, despite the efforts of union partner Green Hills to make it happen.
Instead, the union donated $ 2,500 to the pantries of several churches.
“We hope churches will be able to handle the demands placed on them during the holiday season,” Piedmonte said in an email. “The PBA also doesn’t want families, many of whom receive food every year and come to rely on them, waiting at their doorstep on our usual delivery date.
