BALTIMORE >> The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the United States has exceeded 20 million, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
Deaths from COVID-19 have also increased in the United States, now totaling more than 346,000 people.
This is almost twice as many as the second country, India, and almost a quarter of the more than 83 million cases worldwide.
India and Brazil are behind the United States in coronavirus cases at more than 10 million and 7 million, respectively.
The increase comes as officials rush to vaccinate millions of Americans, but have got off to a slower and more complicated start.
President-elect Joe Biden criticized the Trump administration on Tuesday for the pace of COVID-19 vaccine distribution and pledged to step up the current rate of vaccinations.
However, Biden acknowledged that it “will still take months to get the majority of Americans vaccinated.”
