Update:
SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV)–
START 2021:
A stronger storm system is operating in the lower Great Lakes region this evening and will push its way through or just north and west of CNY on Saturday morning. This will prepare Syracuse and CNY for a wintry mix tonight which should turn to rain for the most part late tonight overnight from west to east. For this reason, much of the CNY is under Winter weather warning From Friday evening to the beginning of Saturday.
TONIGHT:
Snow, sleet, and freezing rain are moving through the area, but between about 9 and midnight the winter mix will change to rain in the Syracuse area in a westerly direction. The icy mixing will likely persist east of Syracuse and the I-81 corridor overnight, but by sunrise most areas of CNY will experience only scattered rain showers. Temperatures will be on the verge of freezing much of this evening, but will rise well into the 1930s to reach the low 40s by dawn on Saturday.
Untreated roads will likely be at least a little slippery / sloppy tonight, but are expected to improve for many near midnight, especially after midnight, as temperatures rise. Areas east of Syracuse towards the Mohawk Valley, Tug Hill, the Adirondacks and maybe some of the hills southeast of Syracuse will likely remain slippery at least in places overnight early Saturday morning.
Snowfall will be minimal tonight, ranging from a slush coating an inch from the Syracuse area in the west to 1-4 inches east of 81, particularly over the higher terrain .

A tenth of an inch of icing is possible around and west of Syracuse up to Lake Ontario and through the Finger Lakes. Up to a quarter inch of ice is possible near and east of 81, especially in the hills.

SATURDAY:
All the rain showers around to start on Saturday will reduce to a few rain / snow showers at noon and much of the afternoon looks dry. Temperatures will cool down in the 1930s during the midday and afternoon hours with a brisk breeze.
SUNDAY:
Another system that is developing and moving near the east coast is likely to produce at least a 2-3 inch layer of slush and wet snow for CNY on Sunday afternoon and evening. Snow can mix with a little rain at times on Sunday afternoon too. Sunday’s highs will be in the mid-1930s.
Stay tuned for updates regarding the Sunday system and its impacts on CNY to wrap up the holiday weekend.
