The US stock market opened higher on Monday with higher technology and pharmaceutical stocks.
The Dow Jones jumped 232 points, or 0.7%, to 34,107 at 9.40 am ET (1340GMT), IBM added 1.7%. The S&P 500 Index rose 17 points, or 0.4%, to 4199 points.
The Nasdaq rose 19% to 13,982, with pharmaceutical firms Pfizer and Moderna surging 1.2% and 4.8%, respectively.
Distributed doses of the vaccine in the United States are nearly 313 million, of which more than 245 million have been administered as of early Sunday. More than 104 million people, or 31.6% of the US population, have received two doses to date, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency exchange platform in the United States, gained 2.5% at the opening of trades thanks to the recent gains in cryptocurrencies.
While the world’s largest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, broke the critical $ 57,000 resistance level over the weekend and was trading above $ 58,200 at the time, the largest altcoin Ethereum climbed to an all-time high of $ 3204 earlier.
