The Dollar Index, which measures the dollar for its six major peers, rose 0.53 percent to 90.5547.
In the second half of trading in New York, the euro fell from $ 1.2171 in the previous session to $ 1.2103, while the pound sterling fell from $ 1.4167 in the previous session to $ 1.4107. The Australian dollar fell from $ 0.7754 to $ 0.7702.
The US dollar bought 109.71 yen, up from 109.41 in the previous session. The US dollar exchange rate rose from 0.8948 to 0.8989 Swiss francs and from 1.2088 Canadian dollars to 1.2167 Canadian dollars.
